HIPPEAS to reformulate and relaunch non-HFSS puffs

The innovative chickpea snack brand is transitioning all its products to meet incoming HFSS regulations in the UK.

HIPPEAS® Chickpea Puff Snacks is spreading the Peas and Love with the reformulation and relaunch of its puff range and all future NPD to be non-HFSS compliant. The salt and sugar in the non-HFSS puffs range has been reduced by a third of the previous recipe, and is available in Take it Cheesy, Salt & Vinegar Vibes, In Herbs We Trust, Sweet & Smokin’ and Sriracha Chilli.

The non-HFSS product will roll out this summer, ahead of the October legislation start date, and will be available in 22g, 78g bags and multipacks at Tesco, Sainsburys, Waitrose, Asda, Coop, Ocado, Booths, Holland and Barrett, Whole Foods, Planet Organic, Getir, Gorillas, Jiffy, Amazon and via https://uk.hippeas.com/

Good for people and planet

“We at HIPPEAS have always strived to offer consumers better-for-you snacks that taste delicious, so we’re really pleased to be able to take this one step further by reformulating and relaunching our puffed crisp line to be non-HFSS compliant,” said Paul Nardone, the brand’s CEO. “All of HIPPEAS chickpea snacks are made from the humble but mighty chickpea, which is high in protein and fibre. Our snacks are vegan and free from artificial flavours, colours and ingredients, so now with the reformulation to meet non-HFSS regulations, we feel even better about what we are offering to our HIPPEAS fans and families.”

HIPPEAS Chickpea Puffs have an average of 3.5 grams  of plant-protein and only 92kcals per 22g serving. The salt and sugar in the non-HFSS puffs range has been reduced by a third of the previous recipe, and the reformulated range is available in Take it Cheesy, Salt & Vinegar Vibes, In Herbs We Trust, Sweet & Smokin’ and Sriracha Chilli flavours. HIPPEAS Chickpea Puffs are also totally vegan, gluten-free, palm-oil-free, as well as being free from MSG.

Aside from these virtuous attributes, the brand also touts the environmental benefit of its snacks over others: Chickpea plants release nitrogen back into the earth, so they’re naturally good for the planet.
