UK gourmet burger restaurant chain Byron has launched an innovative brew with a twist – Pickle Beer.

Said to combine a natural dry tart acidity with a subtle herbal fresh dill infusion, this Saison beer based creation is touted as the perfect accompaniment to Byron’s gourmet burgers. 

“Burger and beer aficionados can rejoice, as this beer’s clean crisp flavour, with a tangy finish has been perfectly matched to accompany any of the delicious beef, chicken, veggie or vegan burgers on the menu,” the firm said in a statement. “And for those who simply cannot get enough, be sure to order extra gherkins on the side!”

Despite the beer being launched on 1st April, Byron has since confirmed with Food & Beverage Networker that the brand’s new Pickle Beer is not an April Fool’s Day prank, and that burger and beer aficionados can now enjoy this combo in restaurants and Deliveroo.

The ultimate ‘Hair of the Dog’

According to a poll of 2,000 people nationwide, 51 per cent agreed that pickles are a must have ingredient when making or eating a burger, while one in two people agree that pickles add a great texture and flavour to any dish. 

Additionally, the survey revealed that a third of 18-34 year olds agree that the pickle is the perfect hangover snack – which makes sense, given that the humble pickle provides a hit of sodium and potassium that the body needs after a heavy night. Indeed, when asked what people crave on a hangover, 45 per cent of survey respondents agreed that it has to be savoury, sour, bitter and have that fifth taste, Umami – making Pickle Beer the ultimate ‘Hair of the Dog’.
