Retrofit crop insight tech HarvestEye to take the stage at Fruit Logistica

From 5-7 April in Berlin, machine-learning driven crop insights tool HarvestEye will be exhibiting on the global agronomy stage at Fruit Logistica – the world’s leading fruit and vegetable trade fair.

The move formulates part of a strategy to showcase HarvestEye to new and expanding territories including the US, Australia and India.

HarvestEye comprises a patented technology, developed by UK-based agri-tech R&D firm B-Hive Innovations, to provide live insights on root crops as the crop is lifted – presenting growers with valuable information on the size and count of the whole field crop, instead of conventional sampling.

Global fresh produce event Fruit Logistica, which runs from 5-7 April in Berlin, Germany, features over 3,300 exhibitors from over 80 countries, with 72,000 trade visitors expected to attend over the three days.

Tech to maximise yield and better understand crop variability

“We are incredibly excited to be demonstrating HarvestEye to the global fresh produce industry at the upcoming Fruit Logistica trade show,” enthused Vidyanath (Vee) Gururajan, Managing Director at HarvestEye. “It’s a significant opportunity to showcase how integrated technology such as this can assist crop farmers when it comes to maximising yield and better understanding crop variability. The technology can effectively map crop performance to different customers that require different specifications.

“We are excited to showcase to an array of businesses – across value and supply chains – the extraordinary actionable insights that HarvestEye places into the hands of growers,” the firm’s MD added.

“Exhibiting at Fruit Logistica strongly positions HarvestEye alongside award-winning and established agri-tech innovators, who echo the ambitions of ourselves to enhance and innovate crop insight technologies, for a more efficient and sustainable future.”

Low-cost method for targeted agronomic performance

Fitting to existing harvesting equipment, HarvestEye is a low-cost method to achieve targeted agronomic performance. Data collected by the product is delivered to an online portal.

Currently, HarvestEye is a commercial offering that is compatible with potato and onion crops. It is being further developed through partnerships and trials with growers to be used with other root crops.

Vee added: "The technology provides timely insights to better plan alignment of stocks to customers. In turn the product is enhancing supply chain confidence – ensuring that the fresh produce delivered meets their expectations, and thus maximising returns for all parties through reduced wastage and increased efficiency.”

Harvest Eye will be exhibiting in hall 5.1 stand B-19 at Fruit Logistica alongside other innovators in farming machinery and technology.

Interested parties can also hear further from Harvest Eye as part of Fruit Logistica’s ‘Smart Agri’ speakers focus, taking place at 12.30pm GMT at the Start-up/Tech Stage in Hall 9, Booth A-13.
