KellyDeli – owners of the fast-growing Sushi Daily brand, with over 100 UK counters in large supermarkets such as Waitrose and Asda – recently launched a competition for its franchise partners to create a new recipe for the festive season.

Each franchisee was offered the opportunity to design a sushi menu comprising 12–14 pieces, with the key ingredient as salmon, to be rolled out across its counters as part of the chain’s 2019 Christmas offering.

Winner Sherab Shakur – from Brent Cross, although originally hailing from Tibet – scooped the win with his salmon and veggie creation named the ‘Kipo Menu’, as ‘kipo’ means ‘happy’ in his native language.

With 14 pieces and a side of edamame, the Kipo menu includes four Salmon Speciality Rolls, two Cured Salmon Nigiri, four Salmon Sashimi, two Avocado Maki and two Cucumber Maki – all for just £10.

Sushi Daily’s festive platters

Sherab’s menu will sit alongside Sushi Daily’s festive platters, available from late November. All platters are made fresh every day and are available to order in around 20 minutes, each serving around 4-6 people.

From the 32-piece Nagoya Mix, which costs £25 and features three variations of nigiri, sashimi and maki, to the 67-piece Maki Party, which costs £35 and offers an exciting mix of veggie and fish maki, the new Christmas range includes a platter to suit sushi experts and novices alike.

Vegetarians can opt for the 35-piece veggie mix at just £17, with a selection of veggie crunch rolls, rice paper rolls, wakame veggie rolls and maki to tuck into.

“This is the first time we’ve opened up a competition for our franchise partners to design a new recipe, and we have been delighted with the excitement and support received from all of them,” remarked KellyDeli’s UK Managing Director Daniel Coole. “Having personally sampled the winning recipe, I can attest that it is delicious and I’m sure it will fly off the shelves this Christmas, along with our brand-new big platters!”
